Chapter Forty-Four
He walked straight into Victor’s office. “Newman,” he said as he closed the door behind him firmly.
“What is it, Bradley?” Victor asked as he continued reading his file.
“You know why I’m here. I want to see my daughter!”
“Your daughter?” Victor asked unable to believe what he was hearing!
“That’s right, I want to see her. No more stalling, no more games! I want to see my daughter!”Brad demanded hotly.
“Abby will see you when she’s ready and not a moment sooner.”
“You arrogant son of a pregnant dog, who do you think you are?” Brad demanded hotly.
“A better question, Bradley, is who the hell do you think you are coming into my office and talking to me this way?! This is my office, Abby is my daughter and you no longer have a say in anything that has to do with her! That’s the way it is, so you’d better find a way to deal with it!”
“No, Newman, that’s the way it is for now.” Brad corrected him cryptically.

“What are you talking about now?” Victor asked mockingly.
“Word is that you and Nikki aren’t getting along well at all. Everyone knows it’s only a matter of time until you break her heart just like you broke Ash’s so many times before. But, don’t worry. I’ll be there to help her and Abby pick up the pieces.” Brad replied with an arrogant smirk and a spark of challenge in his eyes.
“You arrogant worm, nobody including my wife and daughter needs a d**n thing from you! You may have money but you’re still all alone. The only reason you have any of your money is because you married into it! You didn’t earn one d**n penny!” Victor bellowed infuriated!
“Spoken like a true blowhard who can’t stand knowing that he’s done. Face it, Victor your marriage is through. It’s only a matter of time before Nikki realizes it too and decides to try again with someone else, someone who can give her what she needs, instead of constantly taking from her and leaving her broken-hearted. Don’t worry, I’ll take very good care of her,” Bradley said with a smirk as he started to walk out.

“You had your chance, Bradley and you blew it! What makes you think Nikki will ever look twice at you?”
“You’ve paved the way for me, Newman. The way you’ve been treating her lately, she’ll come to her senses soon enough and you’ll be left out in the cold where you belong!” Brad taunted him.
“GET OUT, GET THE HELL OUT AND DON’T YOU EVER LET ME CATCH YOU IN HERE AGAIN!” Victor boomed as his fists clenched at his sides and he tried to ignore the tightening in his chest, the trouble breathing.
Bradley left without another word.

“Surely he’s just joking, trying to make me doubt my marriage. What else could it be?” Victor asked aloud, wheezing as he leaned against the window in his office. But a little voice inside of him asked, “But what if he isn’t? He has history with Nikki. Abby called him daddy for the first two years of his life. What if this isn’t just an empty threat?” Victor thought to himself aloud once again as doubts began to creep in, “Have I lost my wife? What if I’m about to lose her and Abby? What do I do?”
Although he was trying very hard, he couldn’t ignore the tightening in his chest or the wheezing as both got worse.
Finally, as the pain in his chest overtook him, he collapsed on the floor of his office.

Chapter Forty-Five
A few hours later Nikki paced the livingroom unable to figure out where Victor was or why he hadn’t called.
“Mom, come on, come sit down. Dad probably just lost track of time. You know how he gets when he’s got a lot of work to do. And he’s even worse when he’s got something going on that he can’t control. He throws himself into his work without a thought to anything else.”
“Or anyone else,” Nikki added pointedly.
“Look, all I’m saying is pacing the living room worrying yourself sick won’t help anything or anyone. It’ll just get you all worked up for nothing. Dad’s coming home soon, I’m sure of it. Just come and sit down and relax.” Vicki hoped she’d be able to get through to her mom and get her to calm down even a little bit. ‘If she keeps this up, she’ll end up in serious trouble! At this rate, she’ll put herself in the hospital.’ Vicki thought to herself worried and frustrated, ‘Where is he? He should be here by now! The longer he takes, the more worked up Mom gets!’
The sound of Nikki walking out of the living room and towards the front door dragged Vicki back to reality. “Mom, where are you going? Stay here! It’s snowing out and the roads are a mess! The last thing you need is to be driving around in that! Let’s just stay here and wait for Dad to come home.” Vicki begged, as she ran to the entrance, hoping she’d be able to convince her to stay home and wait until Victor returned.

“Victoria, I’m not waiting anymore! Your father should have been home hours ago! Something’s wrong, he should’ve called! I’m not waiting any longer, I can’t! Call me if you hear anything.” With that, Nikki wrapped her coat around her, pulled up her hood and walked out into the storm and from there to her car.
“D**n it, Victor, where are you? Why haven’t you called? Something’s wrong here, very wrong! I just hope I’m not too late.” Nikki whispered hopefully, fearfully as she started the car and the drive into town.
The drive into town went slower than usual because of all the blowing snow and the slippery roads. Undeterred, Nikki continued driving, unwilling to stop for any reason. ‘I need to get there, I know Victor’s at his office! I just wish he’d have come home when he was supposed to. God, don’t let me be too late, don’t let me be too late,’ Nikki thought to herself frantically.

Once she finally pulled into the parking lot, Nikki wasted no time. She walked as quickly as her legs would carry her to the front doors of Newman Enterprises and from there went straight to Victor’s office.
Not surprisingly, Connie and all the other employees were long gone.
Only the security guards and other night personnel remained.
Carefully, slowly and fearfully, she opened the door to Victor’s office and called his name.
When she got no answer, she called his name again, this time a little louder, as she walked a little further into the office. Still nothing.
Then, out of the corner of her eye, she saw someone lying on the ground. Praying it was her imagination, she walked to the window.
Her jaw dropped and her heart jack hammered against her ribs as she realized what had happened and frantically called Victor’s name.
When he didn’t respond at all, she checked his breathing and pulse. “God, what do I do? What do I do?” she asked herself frantically.
Numb, she snatched up the phone and called 911. “Hello, yes, this is Nikki Newman. I need an ambulance right away. I’m in Victor Newman’ s office, he’s collapsed and his breathing’s shallow, his pulse is weak and hard to find. No, he’s not conscious. No, I don’t know how long he’s been like this. Okay, yes, I understand. I won’t move him. Please hurry!”
With trembling hands, she hung up the phone and knelt down beside his almost lifeless body murmuring through heartbroken, terrified tears, “Victor, it’s me. It’s Nikki. Can you hear me? Victor? Hold on, you have to hold on, darling. Please hold on!” With tears pouring down her cheeks and catching in her voice, she pleaded with him over and over to hold on. “I can’t lose you. Not now, do you hear me, I can’t lose you! Don’t leave me now! Don’t go now, darling, please don’t leave me!”
