#YR’s Nightmare in Daytime

Published August 4, 2017 by tdaddetta16

Just when viewers thought it was safe, Y&R is in turmoil! In a move that has Y&R viewers fuming, as of July 28th Kay Alden was fired from daytime’s number one soap! As always, Highlight Hollywood had the scoop before anyone else got wind of it.

According to the article, which can be found here; the plot only thickened, and grew more disgusting and murky when viewers learned that Sally Sussman wanted to hire her son, who is college age; to replace the top scribe who worked for Y&R’s late co-creator, Bill Bell, for three decades. Alden, who started out, like all other writers, as a script writer for Y&R, and rose through the ranks through hard work and diligence, combined with a passion for storytelling, and the genre itself. She was devoted to the show and bringing Bill Bell’s vision to life, and she did so,  seemingly effortlessly; and much to viewers’ delight, for three decades.

Such a betrayal  coming from Sony shocks nobody. It is Sally’s betrayal of her longtime coworker and colleague, however, that has viewers dumbfounded and furious; especially since Alden is easily one of daytime’s best, and most talented writers. Alden is easily among the top scribes in all of daytime; one of the very best, and most respected in the genre!

Viewers got played like violins, not only by Sony, but by Sussman herself, who we now know, never had any intention whatsoever of restoring Bell’s legacy. Kay was simply brought on to appease us, but was ignored completely; by both Sally, and Sony. The phrase no good deed goes unpunished has never been more apt, nor more tragic and revolting.

Sussman didn’t count on karma catching up with her quite so soon, but it sure did; and in spades!

Per Highlight Hollywood’s July 31st article, Sussman, who snubbed and ignored Alden, despite Alden’s thirty year career in Bell soaps, and the wealth of experience that she’s earned because of it; found herself out in the cold just two days after having betrayed Alden. Daytime’s number one soap, will now be written and executive produced by current executive producer, Mal Young. Young, despite his many credits and successes with British soaps, is a novice when it comes writing to North American soaps.

Contrary to what some would have viewers believe, neither Sussman, nor Alden retired, and anyone who believes it needs his or her head read! If you believe that, I’ve got all kinds of bridges to sell you; and at rock bottom prices!

#YR fans LISTEN UP! With Sally no longer a factor at Y&R; Sony&CBS MUST get the message that Angelica McDaniel, Mal Young, and Steve Kent MUST GO&they MUST #BringBackKayAlden! Angelica, Steve, Mal, and Sally are ALL responsible for the current state of Y&R!

Y&R Celebrates 44 Years on the Air & #SaveYR is a Resounding Success

Published March 23, 2017 by tdaddetta16

As Y&R prepares to celebrate 44 years on television; a monumental achievement for any show, and particularly for a soap.

Of course, none of this would be happening without the show’s co-creators, the late William J. Bell and his wife Lee Phillip Bell. Nor would it be happening without the hard work of the shows incredibly talented cast and crew.

The past decade, and past 3 years in particular were trying times, to say the least, with Jill Farren Phelps and Chuck Pratt, two of the worst, most notorious hacks in daytime, at the helm of daytime’s #1 soap. There was no shortage of obstacles and roadblocks thrown our way; no smooth ride to victory. But, loyal, determined and passionate viewers persevered against overwhelming odds and went on to save the show; forcing the removal of both Phelps and Pratt.

This is a feat few have even attempted and even fewer have achieved. It took 11 years for General Hospital #GH viewers to oust Phelps alone.

This would not have been possible without the help from them, All My Children viewers, One Life To Live Viewers, and Guiding Light viewers as well as those who offered insight on the much beloved soap, Santa Barbara. All of these audiences, and their experiences with Phelps and Pratt, respectively, provided invaluable information and insight that made it possible for us to save this iconic soap that so many love. So, thank you, I only wish we had been able to save and stop the damage done to your soaps.

Special thanks goes out to Allicat028, Annie, FaithfulViewerofLane,  babblingboo, JemSilk, Margie P., and suzetrup.

This would never have  been possible without this group of ladies, who, in one way or another, are a big part of the reason I’m still sane. Well, sort of. 😉 And, who have taught me so much.

Last but certainly not least, we would not be here, celebrating this huge milestone without Tommy Lightfoot Garret and his team at Highlight Hollywood whose determination and tireless efforts were crucial to the #SaveYR campaign’s success.

Thank you to each and every one of you for supporting the campaign and this amazing show for the last 44 years; and may there be many years to come!

Soaps’ Grim Reaper Impales Self on Own Scythe-Chuck Pratt OUT at Y&R

Published October 5, 2016 by tdaddetta16

I’m sorry I’ve been quiet, I just recently returned from vacation and have been battling jet lag and a head cold. But, this was the perfect welcome home!

Chuck Pratt, Y&R’s Co-Executive Producer and Head Writer #FireJFP #FirePratt #BringBackKayAlden #SaveYR

Y&R’ fans young and old are celebrating; and we have no shortage of reasons!

After three long years, according to Daytime Confidential, Sally Sussman (Morina) has been named Y&R’s head writer, replacing Chuck Pratt. You can read details here. Sussman worked under Y&R’s late co-creator, the late, great William J. Bell, for years and her return sparks much needed and long-awaited hope among fans that the beloved soap can be reset and brought back to what Bell and his team built it into.  Listen to Daytime Confidential’s podcast about it here. Together, Kay Alden and Sally Sussman (Morina) have a combined 36 years of experience at Y&R; the show has been on the air for 43 years and will soon celebrate its 44th anniversary on March 26th, 2017.

As if that wasn’t incredible enough; former head writer and executive producer of Y&R, Kay Alden, who also worked under Bell for decades, is back as the show’s story consultant! You can read about that here .

Viewers aren’t the only ones rightfully excited and ecstatic over the news. There was no shortage of excitements from vets either; Doug DavidsonMelody Thomas Scott, and Eric Braeden, all  weighed in, as did fellow vets Tracey Bregman, Christian Leblanc, Kristoff St. John, and Jess Walton

It looked hopeless for the soap that Bill Bell and his wife, Mrs. Lee Phillip Bell co-created 43 years ago and which revolutionized the world of soaps; but Y&R’s loyal and tenacious viewers, after a long, hard-fought battle, got the best news we could have ever hoped for.

There is approximately 4-5 weeks of material that still must air, but then we finally get to see what Y&R’s executive producer, Mal Young, its head writer, Sally Sussman (Morina), and its story consultant, Kay Alden have in store for viewers.

One thing is for sure; buckle up, folks, it’s bound to be a wild  and wonderful ride! So, stay tuned!

Soaps’ Black Widow Caught in Own Web: Jill Farren Phelps OUT at The Young and the Restless

Jill Farren Phelps

Jill Farren Phelps, Y&R’s Former Co-Executive Producer

Y&R fans are ecstatic after getting the news they’ve waited three long, hard years for; Jill Farren Phelps, has finally fired from daytime’s number one soap. It comes not a moment too soon as this is the woman with perhaps the most notorious reputation in daytime, who is responsible for the destruction and cancellation of many soaps including Guiding Light and, most recently, All my Children. General hospital viewers will also remember her as the woman who almost killed their beloved soap after One Life to live and All My Children was unceremoniously dead in 2011.

Highlight Hollywood broke the news late Tuesday night, June 7th 2016. You can read all the details here.

Note: Rumours are flying like the wind, though they are as yet ONLY RUMOURS; that Chuck Pratt, another of daytime’s most notorious soap killers is also out as the show’s head writer and co-executive producer, or well on his way. Stay tuned for more news as it develops.

House of Bell: Happy Anniversary Melody Thomas Scott

Published February 27, 2016 by tdaddetta16

Ahh…the incomparable Nikki Reed Newman (Yeah, yeah, I know there are a few other names in there somewhere, but really, are they even important; does anyone really care at this point?) Melody Thomas Scott has seen and done it all as Genoa City’s beleaguered heroine, Nikki Newman. Watching her now, viewers would never guess that Melody took over the role from Erica Hope who’d been there only a year before the role was recast. Melody started on Y&R on February 27th, 1979. Originally from the wrong side of the tracks, she’s battled a father who tried to rape her (he met his demise when she hit him over the head in self-defence; hey, what else was she supposed to do), got duped into joining what she thought was a modelling agency but was in fact a front for prostitution run by Rose Deville (played by the late Darlene Conley). Just when she’d decided to turn her life around and had gone back to school, she was again shoved down by fate when her college English teacher, Mr. Willson, promised to give her a passing grade if she slept with him (she needed to pass his class to graduate). Predictably though, the slime-ball reneged, leaving Nikki heartbroken and, she felt, out of options. That all changed when Nikki met and fell in love with Victor Newman and the rest, as they say is history. To say Bill Bell and Lee Phillip Bell made the right decision when they cast Melody in the role, while true, doesn’t cut it. From battling booze, to battles in and out of the bedroom, ballroom dancing at the Colonnade Room (mostly with Victor ;)), and everything in between; Nikki’s done it all! Well…almost. Wonder if she has any boas left, baby Katherine may want them to play dress up with when she grows up. Thank you Melody.

House of Bell: Happy Anniversary Kristoff St. John

Mr. Denzel of Daytime, Kristoff St. John, first aired as Neil Winters in 1991 and has been in the role ever since. Kristoff was no stranger to soaps, as Bill Bell hired him fresh off his time on the soap Generations.

Neil is no slouch in business and has the IQ to match. He graduated from Stanford University with an MBA. He’s held high profile positions at all of Genoa Cities top companies; Jabot Cosmetics, Newman Enterprises and Chancellor Industries.

He’s also owned his own business, a jazz club in town, which he later sold.

Always popular with the ladies, Neil’s love life has been…well, complicated, to say the least. He was romantically involved with both Both Barber sisters, Olivia and Drucilla, though he went on to marry Dru and they later had Lily.

Neil has a tumultuous yet loving relationship with his brother Malcolm, though the two rarely see each other.

Neil has been a father to Lily her whole life despite her biological father having turned out to be Malcolm (long story short; Dru took too much cold medicine one night and slept with Malcolm, thinking he was Neil.) and the best father adopted son Devon Hamilton Winters could have asked for. He adopted the young man in 2004/2005. And he’s been fiercely protective of Lily her whole life.

Neil has been unlucky in love; from his first divorce with his first wife Dru to his broken engagement with Victoria Newman and Dru’s death in 2007, which was a monumental blow to him, as many viewers believe she was his soul mate; and his disastrous marriage to Hillary. That’s why viewers hope we’ll see him return to the roles (no pun intended) we love him best in; consummate business man capable of running his own company (or helping his children start their own) and devoted father. And, for the love of soaps; can we please find this man a good woman already?!

Thank you, Kristoff.

House of Bell-Happy Anniversary Eric Braeden

From baked rats in a dungeon to billionaire business mogul, Eric Braeden has played Victor Newman, the man we love, and love to hate since 1980, and is the only actor ever to fill the role. At first glance you’d never guess this strong, self-made billion air was once a scared, lonely little boy who grew up in an orphanage and then on the mean streets of Buffalo. Scraping by just to survive, he fought for everything he had, fought just to survive and vowed that, one day he’d have enough money and power that nobody would ever hurt him again, certainly not the way his mother had when, because she was destitute after his father abandoned them, she left him in that orphanage. And, he certainly succeeded, building one of the world’s largest most successful corporations in the world, Newman Enterprises. But, as much as business is a corner stone of this character, family has always been and still is, his heart and soul; the reason he does what he does (no matter how much we’d like to shake him for it). Thank you, Eric. And we’re glad Victor stumbled into Gina’s and the Colonnade Room. 😉
